Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is an upcoming American 3D adventure film, directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. It is the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, which began in 2003 with Walt Disney Pictures' Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. It will be released on July 7, 2012 in 3D by Walt Disney Pictures. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprises his role as Mody Diwali from Pirates of The Caribbean 3 while Golshifteh Farahani has joined this installment to play Nassira. The film was named the American Film Institute's (AFI) tenth-most anticipated movie of 2012. The world premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" took place in Disneyland, California on March 18, 2011. The film was released in the United Kingdom on May 18, 2011 and in the United States on May 20, 2011. On Stranger Tides became available to own on DVD and Blu-ray discs in North America on December 13, 2011 and was released internationally over the following two days. It is also available on Netflix streaming. On its first weekend of release, "POTC: On Stranger Tides" grossed $90 million in 4,555 theaters. By the end of its first week, the film had grossed $238.5 million worldwide and became the 16th highest-grossing film of 2011. The film's overseas performance was bolstered by many new territories opening on May 28, two weeks before its North American release; Japan was one such territory opening up on this date and it became the highest-grossing foreign country opening with a second place finish to France and Ireland (the previous year's top two). On its second weekend of release it debuted in South Korea at #2 with $8. 3 million, thus having the biggest opening ever for a Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer production.Frank Welker reprised his role as Jack's parrot, "Smee" in this film, but did not receive any on-screen credit for it (he was however credited in merchandise). A special edition DVD and Blu-ray were released of the film on December 13, 2011, containing bonus features including five extended scenes with introductions by Johnny Depp and an audio commentary by Jerry Bruckheimer. The release also contains a 2D version of the film and a "Pirates: The Magic Lives On!", which is the main featurette about the making of this sequel. The film was released on digital downloading services on September 6, 2011. Special features include an audio commentary by directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, 7 deleted scenes with introduction by Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnny Depp, 5 featurettes: "Pirates: The Magic Lives On!", "Bloopers of the Caribbean", "The Epic Conclusion", "Swashbuckling Academy" and "Sea VFX". A Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD combo pack was released on December 13, 2011.
